Becoming a Member
We’re glad you have been worshipping with us, and that you now are interested in joining this family of faith at Latham. The process is 3 simple steps.
Step 1: Inform us of your desire to become a member.
This can be done in several ways. Simply talk with one of the ministers, or contact Marvene Grooms, Administrative Assistant, at 881-4069 or email at office@lathamumc.org. Or you may mark that you are interested in joining on the attendance pad that is passed at each worship service. A member of the staff will follow up with you later.
Step 2: Joining Latham - There are several options for membership.
- Transfer of membership from another United Methodist Church – If you are currently a member of another United Methodist Church, you may simply transfer your membership to Latham.
- Transfer of membership from another denomination – If you are currently a member of another denomination, you may transfer to the United Methodist Church. You will be asked to support the church with your “prayers, presence, gifts, service and witness.”
- Reaffirmation of faith – If you have been baptized but have not been active in a church in some time, you may join by reaffirming your faith and promising to support the church with your “prayers, presence, gifts, service and witness.”
- Confession/Profession of faith – If you have never been baptized nor made a decision to join a church, you may join by confession of your faith and Christian Baptism.
Once you have decided what option works best for you, you will come before the congregation at one of the worship services on Sunday morning and officially “join.” Our members will enjoy greeting you at the end of the service to welcome you into our family.
Step 3: Attend a Latham 101 Class.
Latham 101 is a wonderful opportunity to get to know more about Latham and the ministries through which we carry out Christ's mission. The class, taught by ministers and lay people, includes 3 sessions. Topics include Methodism, Sunday School, small group invovlement, stewardship, serving others and more.
