Become a Member
We’re glad you have been worshiping with us, and that you now are interested in joining this family of faith at Latham. The process is 3 simple steps.
Step 1: Inform us of your desire to become a member.
This can be done in several ways. Simply talk with one of the ministers, or contact Marvene Borntrager, Staff Coordinator for In-Reach and Reception Ministries, at (256)881-4069 or email at firstname.lastname@example.org. Or you may mark that you are interested in joining on the connect card you complete during every worship service. A member of the staff will follow up with you soon.
Step 2: Complete Latham Membership Courses.
Latham membership classes provide opportunities to get to know more about Latham and the ministries generated by God’s vision and mission for our church. The courses, taught by our pastors, staff, and congregational leaders, cover biblical and historical beliefs and practices that inspire today’s ministries at Latham. You’ll meet and connect with others new to Latham and with church staff and members who invite you to get involved in the ministries they represent.
Step 3: Joining Latham – There are several options for membership.
- Transfer of membership from another United Methodist Church – If you are currently a member of another United Methodist Church, you may simply transfer your membership to Latham. Tell one of the pastors and Latham will write your former church for a transfer.
- Transfer of membership from another denomination – If you are currently a member of another denomination, you may transfer to the United Methodist Church. You will be asked to support the church with your “prayers, presence, gifts, service and witness.” Tell one of the pastors and Latham will write your former church for the transfer.
- Reaffirmation of faith – If you have been baptized but have not been active in a church in some time, you may join by reaffirming your faith and promising to support the church with your “prayers, presence, gifts, service and witness.”
- Confession/Profession of faith – If you have never been baptized nor made a decision to join a church, you may join by confession of your faith and Christian Baptism. Once you have decided what option works best for you, you will come before the congregation at one of the worship services on Sunday morning and officially “join.” Our members will enjoy greeting you at the end of the service to welcome you into our family.
